The Buffalo ASP Team

About Buffalo ASP, LLC

At BASP, we audit the way people actually do their work — using terms, expressions, and approaches that are familiar and comfortable to your staff.

Rather than leading interviews with language pulled directly from the RCMS® technical specification, our auditors engage your team in straightforward conversations about the work itself: Waste Management, Safety (energy isolation, hot work, confined spaces), Health & Hygiene, Hazard Communication, Incident Investigation, Security, and more. From there, we connect what we learn back to the requirements of the management system specification — seamlessly and without disrupting your operations.

We understand that your industry has historically operated with well-established documentation — policies, standards, and procedures — and we respect that foundation. Our auditors don’t look for paperwork gaps. They look for real risks related to management system faults or deficiencies that could affect your organization’s performance.

Every BASP auditor has held industrial roles equivalent to the positions they audit. That hands-on background means we can professionally and accurately judge the genuine strengths and weaknesses of your programs — not just check boxes.

Shelley Wickman

President, Buffalo ASP, LLC

Exemplar Global Certified Lead Auditor  |  CHMM®  |  OCS Blue & Logistics Verifier

Ms. Wickman has been working in the EHS&S environment since 2005, first with a hazardous waste hauler and TSDF, then in EHS consulting, and finally moving into management system auditing.

She is an Exemplar Global Certified Lead Auditor, a certified OCS Blue and Logistics Verifier, and a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM®). Ms. Wickman served as lead auditor for an international registrar, leading large audit teams and completing ISO 14001, ISO 18001/45001, RC14001, RCMS®, RSB®, NMA®, and SEMS® certification audits across the oil and gas, chemical, mining and milling, transportation, and manufacturing industries.

She participated in the API 1173 pilot assessment and has experience in pipeline management system audits. As a partner in an engineering firm, she served as president of the Responsible Care® audit service provider division — managing the audit approval process, accreditation body relationships, and serving as the primary contact for the American Chemistry Council.

Education

  • BS, Environmental Science — Regis University
  • Multiple PSM Courses — Georgia Tech University
  • Process Safety Engineering — AIChE
  • Continuing education in IT/Security, EPA, OSHA, and MSHA

Philosophy

Ms. Wickman believes in risk-based auditing and that risk-based management systems are the most effective way to control and mitigate EHS&S risks and identify opportunities for improvement. Management system audits provide assurance and verification that the systems in place to reduce risk and identify opportunities are maintained and working.

Matt Barmasse

Vice President, Buffalo ASP, LLC

Exemplar Global Certified Lead Auditor  |  Responsible Care® Auditor  |  OCS Blue & Logistics Verifier

Mr. Barmasse is an EHS professional with over 40 years of chemical industry experience developing, managing, and auditing EHS and Responsible Care® programs across the chemical industry and its supply chain.

He spent more than 20 years each in large and small chemical company environments — an experience that shaped his understanding that one management system model does not fit all ACC member and partner companies. For the last 15 years of his corporate career, he managed a large chemical company’s EHS auditing program covering all aspects of Responsible Care®, environmental health and safety risk, and transportation.

Mr. Barmasse was a long-time Responsible Care® Coordinator and a member of the ACC Responsible Care® Committee prior to retiring from the corporate sector in 2024.

Education

  • BS, Environmental Sciences — Thiel College
  • MA, Environmental Health & Safety Management — Rochester Institute of Technology

Philosophy

Mr. Barmasse believes that the type and size of a business dictates the appropriate size and complexity of its EHS and Responsible Care® Management Systems. Having audited hundreds of chemical manufacturing and supply chain locations, he brings significant depth of experience to every engagement — helping organizations not just pass audits, but continually improve their Responsible Care® Management Systems.
